Tanjore Painting: Gold Leaf Mastery

About this work

Rendered over eleven weeks in the New Delhi studio, this Tanjore panel follows the classical Thanjavur canon — a raised gesso relief built layer by layer, then leafed in genuine 24ct gold and set with semi-precious stones.

The figure of Krishna stands in tribhanga, the triple-bend posture that gives South Indian devotional painting its unmistakable poise. Vermilion and emerald pigments are hand-ground and bound in the traditional manner so the surface deepens rather than fades with age.

TECHNIQUE

Tanjore, Gold Leaf on Wood, 24×30 in” — this is the Medium & Dimensions field the template pulls from. Gesso relief (muk) built in twelve passes, burnished gold leaf laid with natural adhesive, stone setting, and final detailing with a single-hair squirrel brush.

Collector reviews

“The gold work is extraordinary in person — it catches the evening light exactly as promised. Packaging was museum grade.”
